A quick review of Soul of the Witch by Deanna Chase. This is a super cute heartwarming small magical town romance. A super quick read, made me smile a lot. Gave me the feels because my dad had cancer too. Pretty low on the sexy scale but there was plenty of heat.
Abby Towsend is coming back home after 10 years away to help with her father who is going through treatment for cancer. Pulling into town all the feelings from the past started to come to the surface.
She will have to decide if the guilt she feels from losing her best friend is enough to make her leave or is her family and the heating chemistry building up from seeing her old boyfriend from high school enough to stay.
What I liked
I love funny full of personality side characters! Those are usually my favorite characters in books. I rarely fall in love with the main ones. Wanda is the comic relief in this story. She has a tricked out go chart zooming around town. She seems like a great friend to go party with!
I loved that Clay was flawed. He didn’t always say the right things at the right time. Sometimes I roll my eyes at perfect men in these romances.
It was a pretty light-hearted read considering the subject matter was losing a best friend and the guilt that comes with it and cancer. I felt it was well written you cared about the characters but it didn’t bring you down. You cheered everyone on.
What I didn’t Like
What didn’t like was there wasn’t really enough magic. I felt like this was a contemporary romance with a side of magic. I like the main course to be paranormal. Take me to a place that isn’t real. Show me things I cant do!
Would I read this book again? Probably not, I did enjoy it but I like a little more magic. I am going to go further in the series though
Who would you recommend this book to? Anyone who likes a light-hearted happy ending with a side of magic.
