Covet by J. R. Ward is the first book in the Fallen Angel Series. A paranormal romance mystery with a Pretty Women feel to it.

Covet Summary

Jim Heron moved to Caldwell N.Y. hoping for a fresh start. He just wanted to leave his past behind him. What he hadn’t planned on was this move was going to cause him to become a fallen angel.

As a fallen angel Jim is tasked with saving the souls of 7 people from the 7 deadly sins. If he fails humanity will sees to exist.

His first charge, Vin diPieter. His sin, greed. Vin’s only motivating factor in life was making money. He is a self-made success and never question the sacrifices to get there.

Covet Review

Characters

Vin is a pretty typical rich guy from a broken childhood. The most interesting thing about him is how his success started.

Jim is your typical bad boy. Military experience, killed a lot of people, brooding. You know the type.

The women in the story are pretty cookie-cutter too.

Writing/Plot

Although a little predictable, it wasn’t boring. We have a few storylines to follow. Jim figuring out how to be an angel. The relationship forming between Jim and Vin. There is also a who done it mystery thrown in there too.

Romance

The romance in Covet was ok. I would say it was insta love on Vin’s side. It had a very Pretty Womanish theme to it. The smut was pretty good. I liked that J. R. Ward wrote awkward sexy scenes. When you first meet someone lovemaking isn’t perfect.

Enjoyment

I enjoyed it. It would have been more enjoyable it more if there was better/more dialog and if feared more for the character’s lives. I would recommend it to someone who wants to read a mystery romance with a side of paranormal.

Have you read Covet by J. R. Ward? What did you think?
